Data Systems Engineer

Position Summary:
As a Data Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, optimizing, and managing data pipelines, data warehouses, data lakes, and databases to support our database infrastructure, data analytics, and business intelligence needs. This role will require strong technical skills, a deep understanding of data warehousing and data processing technologies, and a customer-focused mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain database systems, data warehouses, and data lakes, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability, with a focus on Snowflake, MySQL, and IBM DB2 databases.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to database systems, data warehouses, and data lakes, such as performance bottlenecks, data integrity concerns, data transfer and access problems.
- Monitor performance and capacity of data storage and processing solutions, making recommendations for hardware, software, and configuration changes as needed.
- Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to ensure the safety and integrity of data across all platforms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop data integration processes and data models, and to ensure seamless data flow between systems.
- Collect, process, and clean data from various sources, including databases, data warehouses, and data lakes, preparing it for analysis.
- Implement and manage Change Data Capture (CDC) tools to transfer data and data changes in real-time, optimizing data integration.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance, resolving any data integrity or performance issues.
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and robust data pipelines to ingest, process, and store data from various sources, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their data needs and develop appropriate analytical solutions based on data stored in databases, data warehouses, and data lakes.
- Collaborate with developers, data analysts, data scientists, and other stakeholders to understand their data needs and develop appropriate data solutions.
- Design and implement ETL processes to clean, transform, and load data into the appropriate data storage solutions.
- Ensure data security and compliance with relevant data protection regulations.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in data engineering, and recommend improvements to existing processes and technologies.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in database administration, data warehousing, and business intelligence, preferably with Snowflake, MySQL, and IBM DB2 databases, and Domo Business Intelligence tools.
- Strong knowledge of SQL, database design principles, data warehousing best practices, and Change Data Capture (CDC) tools.
- Experience with data lakes and big data technologies.
- Proficient in data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes.
- Familiarity with data analysis, visualization, and reporting tools.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
